_서지우 (b. 1991)는 도시 공간에 스며있는 역사적, 건축적 잔재들을 탐구한다. 도심 곳곳에 있는 오래된 구조물과 잊힌 건축물을 관찰하며, 당시 과거와 현재의 이야기를 추적하여 조사한다. 도시가 점차 변화하고 있는 과정을 면밀히 관찰하며 생겨난 지난 시간들을 기록하고 그 사이의 관계를 다시 재구성하는 기록 형식의 조각 작업으로 만들어낸다. 그는 조각과 건축 사이에서 균형을 이루는 작업을 통해, 인간과 구조물 사이의 접점에서 상호작용하는 스케일을 다루며, 단절되거나 배척된 도심의 서사를 배경으로 조형 언어로서 재도입하고자 한다.

서지우의 작업은 도심의 건축 속에서 간과되어온 세부 요소들을 물리적으로 재구성하려는 의지에서 출발한다. 그는 현장 조사, 드로잉, 작업노트, 건물 파편 수집 및 제작의 과정을 기반으로 발견된 오브제나 건축 자재를 손으로 만든 목재 요소들을 조합하여 조각 작업을 한다. 폐허나 건물의 잔해를 낭만적으로 바라보는 대신 그것들을 동시대 공간과 역사에 대한 인식을 형성하는 능동적인 요소로 다룬다.

서지우는 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 작가이다. 신라대학교에서 조각을 전공한 후, 중앙대학교 일반대학원에서 조형예술 석사 과정을 마쳤다. “힐튼서울 자서전” 피크닉, 남서울 시립미술관, 우란문화재단, 토탈미술관, IMF 서울, 요코하마의 고가네초 에어리어 매니지먼트 센터(레지던시 프로그램) 등에서 작업을 선보였으며, 서울시립미술관의 SeMA Coral 플랫폼을 통해 도심을 탐구하게 된 조각가의 관한 글과 작업의 이어가는 도심 연구에 대해 발표했다.

현재는 미완의 건축과 잠재된 도시의 기억을 조형적 사고를 통해 어떻게 다시 읽어낼 수 있을지에 관심을 두고 있다.


 Ziu Suh (b. 1991) is an artist based in Seoul, KR. He explores the historical and architectural residues embedded in urban spaces. Investigating remnants of old structures, forgotten buildings, and utilitarian architectures scattered throughout the city, Ziu reconstructs sculptural images that reframe the relationship between memory, place, and material. He often works at the scale of human interaction with infrastructure—balancing between sculpture and architecture—while seeking ways to reintroduce fragmented urban narratives through form.

Ziu’s practice is driven by a desire to physically reconstruct overlooked details from the built environment. His sculptural process is informed by field research, drawing, collecting, and building, often incorporating found objects, construction materials, and hand-crafted wooden elements. Rather than romanticizing ruins or remnants, he approaches them as active agents that shape contemporary perception of space and history.

He holds a BFA in Sculpture from Silla University and an MFA in Fine Arts from Chung-Ang University. His work has been shown at the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), Wooran Foundation, Total Museum, IMF Seoul, and at the Koganecho Area Management Center in Yokohama, where he participated in a residency program. He has also published writing and research through SeMA’s Coral platform, examining sculpture as a spatial language that resists linear histories and embraces structural ambiguity.

He is currently interested in how sculptural thinking can reformat our understanding of incomplete architecture and latent urban memories.
