서지우는 도시 속 특정 장소의 구조물과 오래된 건물이 지나온 흔적에 관심을 갖고 그 안에 오래 담겨진 이야기를 들여다보고 이를 현시대의 이미지로 재해석한 조각을 축조합니다. 이처럼 흩어진 역사와 시각적 형태를 결합해 시대성, 지역성, 장소성의 이면을 탐구하고, 우리 주변의 지역과 건축의 역사에 대한 관심을 이끌어내는 작업을 진행하고 있습니다.
바이오그래피
서지우는 중앙대학교 조형예술학과 석사과정을 졸업 후 서울에서 활동하고 있다. 작가는 사회적 현상Social Phenomena과 시각적 형태에 집중하며 근원을 분석하여 동시대의 문제와 조우를 이끌어낸다. 특히, 변화해온 공간의 조형과 구성, 전세기의 모뉴먼트Monument와 신당Shrine등 특유의 설계와 특징에 관심을 가진다. 작가는 ‘유물론적 가치’ 혹은 ‘고고학적 가치’를 현대미술에서 재생산하는데, 이는 작가의 <Mama>, <Papa>에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 작업은 거시적이고 직관적인 형태는 과거의 미감에서 체득한 채, 현대의 현상과 기호를 함의시킨다.

BiographySuh Ziu obtained a MA degree in Sculpture at Chung-Ang University, and mainly works and lives in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. He focuses on the visual formations and current social phenomena by analysing the source and root of them. Through these experime nts, he tries to make them encounter. To be specific, he has discovered the changing spaces composition and configuration, and al l generational monuments and shrines that have unique functions, plans and features. It leads to reproducing ‘materialist value’ or ‘museological value’ in the context of contemporary art. Artworks <Mama>, <Papa> represent his concept of art, in which the macro scopic and intuitive form of the work implies contemporary signs(semiotics) while acquiring the aesthetic from the past.
